Games are my favorite form of media. However, they are often misunderstood by those who are not experienced in their development, and even moreso by those who do not have the ability to open their eyes to games as an artform. The two biggest misunderstandings of games as a medium are:
This seems obvious when you point it out, but many times its ignored. Take a game like Overwatch for example. Is Overwatch a good game? Absolutely not. But is it fun? Arguably. But that begs the question:
Yes. Just because a game is dumb fun doesn't make it bad. A game doesn't need to be fun to be good, but a good game can still be fun. But what do I mean by good?
A good game, simply put, is one that furthers the medium.
